the brief
Project Specification: A specified floor plan in NYC to contain a full service restaurant, bar and lounge.
Holding court….
the center of attention – exposed and perhaps displayed (peferrably in something chic..) is part of the appeal of dining at Court restaurant. Fractured rows of stacked antique beveled mirrors topped by a soaring ceiling – a backrop against angled iron framework – surround the main bi-level dining area – the “court”, reflecting the arc of the surrounding splayed concrete partitions and further emphasizing that sense of exposure. Combined with embossed leaves and enclosing swiveling bev- eled glass panes these partions offer a more intimate dining option with visual access to the adjacent dining areas and the main court – prime people watching….
Winding concrete steps enclosed by a curved wall of vertical iron rods make access to the second level an event. A heavily planted concrete trough fronting a mirrored wall evoke a courtyard overtaken by nature from years of neglect. Stained con- crete – rough, honed and polished add to the antiquated feel – while suede and weathered brass chairs inject a contrasting glamour. Iron rebars and beams support and radiate from the concrete partitions angling to a central point in the center of the dining court reminiscent of old conservatories with their the iron and glass structure.
Wrap around lichen tinted leather banquettes, an otherworldly forested mural and chic shagreen and weathered brass tables give The Lounge its dark, intimate and moody vibe.
The materials: weathered, blasted, and stained concrete and stucco a foil to the deep 24k gold luster of pitted weathered brass, mossy gray/green shagreen and polished analine dyed leather, sueded vicuna leather and brass in stark contrast to vintage black and white tiles, beveled glass panes and beautifully ruined mirrors reflect and reveal.
